Kolkata, July 17, 2025: hoichoi, the leading Bengali OTT platf-orm, unveils the gripping Trailer of its much-anticipated crime thriller Birangana, streaming exclusively on hoichoi from July 25. In a world where justice is often buried, Birangana introduces a voice that refuses to be silenced. Directed by Nirjhar Mitra, the series features Sandipta Sen and Niranjan Mondal in lead roles as S.I. Chitra Basu and Chirayu Talukdar, in a riveting face-off between duty and darkness.

Sandipta Sen appears in a never-seen-before avatar, embodying the bold and unyielding S.I. Chitra Basu — a woman who refuses to let justice be outvoted or outpaced. As a police officer constantly navigating a system built to suppress voices like hers, Chitra becomes a relentless force. With razor-sharp instinct and a moral compass that never wavers, she dares to ask questions no one wants answered. This is a role of ferocity and depth, and Sandipta brings to it both nuance and fire — shaping Chitra into a symbol of quiet rebellion and roaring conviction.
The Trailer also offers a deeper, more chilling look at florist Chirayu Talukdar, portrayed by Niranjan Mondal — popularly known as Laughtersane. While audiences first caught glimpses of Chirayu in the Announcement video, the Trailer unveils darker shades of his layered character — a serial killer who is enigmatic, restrained, and quietly menacing. With Birangana, Niranjan makes a striking OTT debut, bringing his signature intensity and psychological depth to a role that lingers long after the screen fades.

The cast also includes Pratik Dutta as IPS Dhiraj Sinha, Aditya Sengupta as Aniruddha (Chitra’s husband), Anirban Bhattacharya as Balaram Boral, and Sreya Bhattacharya as Mitra Basu, Chitra’s younger sister. We are especially honoured to have Shri Aloke Kumar Sanyal, Deputy Commissioner of the 6th Battalion, Kolkata Armed Police, who graciously supported Birangana not only as a cast member but also as a distinguished representative of the police force. His involvement has added both authenticity and strength to the narrative.
What begins as three isolated tragedies — brides poisoned on their wedding night — soon f-orms a disturbing pattern. The cases are dismissed as suicides, but Chitra senses something sinister beneath the surface. As institutions urge silence, she begins a parallel investigation, confronting not just the criminal but the conscience of society.

To mark the grand unveiling of the Trailer, hoichoi hosted a spectacular launch event at the iconic Alipore Jail Museum: a location deeply rooted in Bengal’s history of resistance and sacrifice. The setting, once a prison that held brave hearts who fought for freedom, now echoed with the voice of a new rebellion, Birangana. This choice of venue was symbolic: a nod to the series’ core themes of justice, courage, and challenging the system.
The event was graced by esteemed dignitaries from the Kolkata Police Force, including ACP Jotshna Das Sapui, who leads the Winners Team, along with all its members, as well as representatives from the Daredevils Team. Their presence brought a profound sense of unity, inspiration, and authenticity to the occasion. Team hoichoi had the privilege of honouring them for their unwavering dedication and service.
“Chitra Basu doesn’t just exist in a broken system, she challenges it,” shared Sandipta Sen. “There’s fire in her voice, but also pain. This role demanded everything from silence to storm.”
“Chirayu is unlike anyone I’ve played,” said Niranjan Mondal. “He’s calm, calculated, and dangerously composed. For me, it was about exploring the silence between words, the menace that doesn’t scream, but whispers.”
Birangana is not just a murder mystery — it’s a whydunit, a howdunit, and above all, a cry for justice in a world that looks away. With striking cinematography, haunting music, and a story that refuses to stay silent, Birangana is a genre-defining thriller of our time.
The Trailer is now available on social media platf-orms of hoichoi, offering a chilling glimpse into a series that redefines what it means to seek truth. Birangana premieres on July 25, only on hoichoi.
