Sony LIV hosted a star-studded press meet in Kolkata to unveil its much-anticipated original, Jazz City. Set in 1970s Kolkata, Jazz city is a fictional story that blends soulful music and human conflict against the city’s old-world charm. Premiering on 19th March 2026, the series transforms a dimly lit jazz club into a silent witness to history, where coded conversations echo through melodies and the fight for identity takes centre stage.

Talking about the series director, Soumik Sen, shared his Insights, “Jazz City was born from a desire to tell a deeply human story set against a transformative time. As a writer and creator, I wanted to tell a story revolves around a fictional jazz club in Kolkata in 1971, hiding secrets amid the trumpet and sax. Jazz City is my homage to those times, and I hope the audience connect with my creative vision.”

Producer, Arpita Chatterjee said, “As a producer, what makes me most proud of Jazz City is the incredible team that came together to build this world with such passion and integrity. From the writing and performances to the technical craft, every department poured their heart into it. It truly also has been a collaborative journey with Sony LIV, and I’m grateful to have worked with such committed artists and crew who believed in this story from day one.”

Actress Sauraseni Maitra shared, ” The moment I read the script I knew Jazz City was going to be special. The storyline is emotional and deeply layered and thats what excited me the most. My character, Sheela will definitely resonate with a lot of people for the strength, compassion and courage she embodies.”

My director, Soumik Da and the whole team guided me with the finer nuances that helped me portray Jimmy’s character arch with clarity. Jimmy is a layered character, blending wit and charm with deep moral and emotional complexity. Striking the right balance was challenging, but I am happy that I could explore these layers in my own way.”
