Kolkata, 28th October, 2025- Santoshpally Jagadhatri Pujo inaugurated its 13th edition with grandeur and enthusiasm in the esteemed presence of Tapash Chatterjee, MLA; Shrabanti Chatterjee, Actress; Debraj Chakraborty, MIC Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation; and several other distinguished guests. The event marked yet another milestone in the committee’s journey of devotion, creativity, and cultural pride.
This year, the pujo committee chose a thought-provoking theme — “Banglar Dakat” — conceptualized and artistically executed by Suman Sikder.

The theme shed light on an often-overlooked chapter of Bengal’s history, redefining the term ‘dakat’ (bandit) through a patriotic lens. Contrary to the popular perception of dacoits as criminals, the pandal showcased how these individuals were, in many cases, rebels and freedom fighters who resisted British oppression and protected local communities during colonial rule. The pandal, designed in a unique cave style, featured, as a special attraction a mesmerizing waterfall at the entrance. To step inside, visitors had to say “Banglar Dakat”! As the magical words were spoken, the waterfall momentarily stopped, and the gates to the pandal opened, welcoming everyone into the world of Banglar Dakat.

“Banglar Dakat” depicted the transformation of these misunderstood figures into symbols of defiance and courage, who fought against injustice in their own fearless ways. The theme sought to remind visitors that history is not always written in black and white — that those labeled as ‘outlaws’ by the British were, in fact, protectors of the poor and defenders of the motherland. Through artistic installations, lighting, and sculptures, the pujo’s presentation reflected the socio-political realities of that time, drawing parallels with Bengal’s undying spirit of resistance and resilience.

Alongside the artistic and cultural celebration, Santoshpally Jagadhatri Pujo Committee has also undertaken several social initiatives this year as part of its community welfare drive. The committee announced assistance for 30 cancer patients, pledged to take responsibility for 50 underprivileged children, and extended financial support to economically weaker sections of society. These efforts reflect the committee’s commitment to combining devotion with compassion and making a tangible difference in the lives of those in need.

Speaking on the occasion, Ratan Mrida, President of Santoshpally Jagadhatri Pujo Committee, said, “Our theme this year, ‘Banglar Dakat’, pays homage to those forgotten warriors who defied colonial power and stood up for their people. Through this concept, we wanted to highlight the true spirit of Bengal — brave, compassionate, and unyielding in the face of injustice. This pujo is our tribute to their courage and to the soul of Bengal itself.”

The 13th edition of Santoshpally Jagadhatri Pujo successfully blended art, history, and devotion, making it a celebration that will be remembered for its creativity and deeper message of pride in Bengal’s cultural legacy.
