June 20, Kolkata witnessed the launch of Butterfly Wings, a wedding and event design studio founded by Kanaklata Datta – a name many in the city associate with quiet elegance and over three decades of deep involvement in wedding traditions and aesthetics.
Best known as the woman behind Sharbari, one of Kolkata’s most respected menswear labels for grooms, Kanaklata has spent years helping families prepare for some of the most significant days of their lives. With Butterfly Wings, she steps into a new chapter, expanding her vision from dressing the groom to designing the entire celebration, with the same calm, detailed, and deeply intuitive approach.
The launch, hosted by Richa Sharma, was warm, personal, and carefully put together much like the kind of experiences the brand aims to create. It brought together friends, collaborators, and well-wishers who’ve seen Kanaklata’s journey evolve over time. The space reflected the spirit of Butterfly Wings; thoughtful design, subtle storytelling, and an emphasis on what really matters.
Butterfly Wings offers much more than wedding planning. It’s about building a journey from the emotional prep before the big day to the small details that often go unnoticed but mean everything.
