Kolkata: Calcutta Boys’ School successfully hosted the 6th edition of its flagship inter-school Model United Nations Conference, Assembly of Nations (AON) 2026, bringing together young minds from across Kolkata to deliberate on global affairs, international diplomacy, geopolitical challenges, and the evolving role of global institutions. The two-day conference reaffirmed the school’s commitment towards nurturing future leaders equipped with critical thinking, diplomatic skills, and a deeper understanding of world affairs.

With participation from 14 leading schools across Kolkata, AON 2026 provided a dynamic platform where students stepped into the roles of diplomats, representing countries from around the world and engaging in discussions on pressing international issues. Through committee sessions, policy drafting, negotiations, and structured debates, students explored the complexities of international relations while understanding the importance of dialogue, cooperation, and consensus-building in resolving global challenges.

The conference commenced with a grand inaugural ceremony attended by distinguished guests and dignitaries. Mr. Raja McGee, Principal and Secretary, Calcutta Boys’ School, welcomed the gathering and highlighted the importance of experiential learning in shaping responsible global citizens. He emphasised that platforms like AON enable students to look beyond textbooks and develop awareness about international affairs, diplomacy, and the interconnected nature of today’s world.

Dr. Rahul Varma, Secretary General, West Bengal Federation of United Nations Associations, who attended as the Chief Guest, spoke about the evolving role of the United Nations in addressing modern global challenges and the need for reforms to respond to changing geopolitical realities. Madame Julia Martin-Legros, Attaché for Cooperation in French Language – East India, French Institute in India, Consulate General of France in Kolkata, as the Guest of Honour, highlighted the importance of cultural exchange, multilingualism, and international collaboration among young generations.


Speaking about the significance of Assembly of Nations 2026, Mr. Raja McGee, Principal and Secretary, Calcutta Boys’ School, said, “In today’s rapidly changing world, understanding international relations, diplomacy, and global challenges has become essential for young learners. Through Assembly of Nations, we aim to provide students with a platform where they can think critically, engage in meaningful discussions, and develop the confidence to become responsible global citizens and future leaders.”

Over the course of the conference, students participated across five committees, showcasing exceptional research, analytical abilities, public speaking skills, and diplomatic temperament. The conference witnessed active engagement from student leaders, including the Secretary-General, Deputy Secretary-General, Executive Board Members, Chairpersons, and Secretariat, who ensured the smooth functioning of the proceedings with professionalism and adherence to parliamentary procedures.

The closing ceremony marked the culmination of the conference with addresses by Dr. Nazrul Islam (Retd. IPS) and Dr. Iman Kalyan Lahiri, Professor of International Relations, Jadavpur University, who encouraged students to uphold integrity, informed decision-making, and responsible citizenship while understanding the complexities of global politics.

The event concluded with awards recognising excellence in diplomacy, negotiation, leadership, research, and public speaking, with The Heritage School receiving the Best Delegation Team Award for its outstanding performance. The successful execution of Assembly of Nations 2026 reflected Calcutta Boys’ School’s commitment to nurturing globally aware students through platforms that connect education with real-world international challenges.
