Kolkata, June 28: More than 4,000 students, alumni and their family members gathered at the Biswa Bangla Exhibition Centre on Sunday as RICE Education hosted its 16th Samabartan Utsav, celebrating the achievements of candidates who have secured positions in various State and Central Government services.
The annual convocation brought together successful candidates, current students, parents and distinguished guests to recognise academic excellence and reaffirm the importance of dedication and public service.
Founded in 1985, RICE Education has spent over four decades preparing aspirants for competitive examinations, including WBCS, SSC, Banking, Railways, Insurance, PSC Miscellaneous and School Service. From its beginnings in Belghoria, the institution has grown into one of eastern India’s leading coaching institutes for government service examinations.
The ceremony commenced with a cultural performance, followed by the traditional lighting of the ceremonial lamp. Prof. (Dr.) Samit Ray, Founder Chairman of RICE Education, welcomed the gathering and reflected on the institution’s journey and its continued commitment to nurturing future public servants.
Dr. Sukanta Majumdar, Union Minister of State for Education and Minister of State for Development of North Eastern Region, Government of India, graced the ceremony as the Chief Guest, while retired IAS officer Debashis Sen attended as the Guest of Honour. Before the formal proceedings, Dr. Majumdar joined students, faculty members and guests in listening to the live broadcast of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s Mann Ki Baat. Addressing the gathering, Dr. Majumdar and Debashis Sen spoke about the responsibilities associated with public service and encouraged students to uphold integrity, discipline and an unwavering commitment to nation-building.
A key feature of the convocation was the oath-taking ceremony, where current students and successful candidates pledged to uphold ethical values and professional integrity throughout their careers.
Candidates who qualified in examinations such as WBCS, SSC, Banking, Railways, Insurance, PSC Miscellaneous and School Service were felicitated during the programme. Special awards were presented to outstanding performers in recognition of their exceptional achievements.
One of the highlights of the event was the presentation of cars to a select group of top achievers in recognition of their outstanding performance in competitive examinations.
The institution also honoured eminent personalities for their distinguished contributions to public administration and society. Several successful alumni attended the programme and interacted with current students, sharing their experiences of preparing for competitive examinations and the challenges of serving in government.
The convocation reaffirmed RICE Education’s four-decade-long commitment to empowering young men and women to pursue careers in public service while celebrating the perseverance, discipline and excellence of those who have successfully realised that aspiration.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. (Dr.) Samit Ray said, “Samabartan Utsav marks the culmination of years of perseverance, sacrifice and disciplined effort. Every successful candidate honoured today reflects the determination required to overcome challenges. Their achievements are a source of inspiration for future generations of aspirants.”
Delivering the valedictory address, CEO of RICE Education, Somnath Acharya, said, “Every success story celebrated today is the result of consistent effort, resilience and self-belief.
