Actress Rikhia Roy Chowdhury has become a household name for Bengali Television audience as she is the face of Zee-Bangla’s Shahshuri-Boumaa’r Rannaghor. Previously she wooed the audience with her role in Sun Bangla’s Mega serial ‘Video Bouma’ where she played the female lead opposite popular actor Aryann Bhowmik. Rikhia is making this year’s Mahalaya more special as she is all set to portray Devi Parvati and Mahishasurmardini during that auspicious day.
About portraying Parvati and Mahishasurmardini, Rikhia Said, “Whenever I perform something related to dance, I do it very passionately. I started my career with dance and later moved into acting. Still dance remains my first passion. So, I performed this act with immense care and joy. I hope I have done justice to these two powerful incarnations of Maa durga.”
About the different approaches Rikhia took about portraying the two different incarnations of Devi Durga, the versatile actress said, “The manifestation of Parvati I have played in this production is quite different from the traditional portrayal Parvati. This version of Parvati is Yogeswari Parvati which is far more powerful than the usual softer and calmer version of Parvati. And my portrayal of Mahishahsur Mardini was the usual powerful portrayal of the incarnation , just as we are used to see that very manifestation.”
Speaking about her personal favourite of the two incarnations she has portrayed, Rikhia said, “ Look wise I will say, Yogeswari Parvati is closer to my heart as this version needed lesser make up. In real life I too do not prefer much loud look and like to keep it simple. But yes act wise Mahishahsur Mardini demanded more power and energy.. Emoting the anger, aggression and dominance was much more challenging.”
About her own personal favourite memories of Mahalaya, Rikhia said, “ I always preferred to listen Mahalaya own radio rather than watching it on screen. Turning on the radio during the early hours of Mahalaya gives a different level of excitement. Later I have performed for Mahalaya production for a number of platforms including Sun Bangla for my serial.
The first look will be unveiled on 5th August 2026, followed by the premiere of the complete production on 10th October 2026 at 5:00 AM on the Third Eye Creation channel.
