“Beyond Sound” offers a contemplative journey from the chaos of the city to inner peace and spiritual connection
Kolkata, 12 October 2026: Chorebagan Sarbojanin Durgotsab Samity inaugurated its 91st Durga Puja on Monday, 12 October 2026, with the presence of Shri Suvendu Adhikari, marking a significant moment in the committee’s longstanding celebration of tradition, culture and community.
This year’s Puja brings to life the evocative theme “Beyond Sound”—an immersive artistic and spiritual experience that invites devotees and visitors to move beyond the noise of everyday life and discover a deeper sense of tranquillity, introspection and connection with Maa Durga.
Located amid the bustling surroundings of Ram Mandir and C.R. Avenue, Chorebagan has envisioned its Puja premises as a sanctuary of calm within the vibrant energy of Kolkata. The theme explores the contrast between the external chaos of urban life and the stillness within, encouraging visitors to pause, reflect and reconnect with themselves and the Divine.

Conceptualised and executed by renowned artist Sri Susanta Sibani Paul, “Beyond Sound” brings together artistic expression, lighting, theme-based music, carefully selected materials and spatial design to create an immersive environment that extends beyond a conventional pandal experience. The presentation of Maa Durga and the surrounding installation seek to evoke a profound, silent connection between the Divine and her devotees.
The 91st edition is particularly meaningful for Chorebagan Sarbojanin Durgotsab Samity as it marks its first collaboration with Susanta Sibani Paul. The partnership reflects the committee’s commitment to bringing fresh artistic perspectives to a celebration deeply rooted in tradition, while preserving the spiritual essence of Durga Puja.
The inauguration also underscores the Samity’s continued dedication to celebrating the festival as a coming together of faith, heritage, culture and community. Alongside its customary religious rituals, the committee has prioritised visitor safety, effective crowd management and the peaceful ambience central to this year’s theme.
Speaking on the occasion, Raj Kumar Sewda, General Secretary of Chorebagan Sarbojanin Durgotsab Samity, said:

“This year, through our theme ‘Beyond Sound’, we wanted to create an experience that people could not only see but also feel. Chorebagan is surrounded by the constant noise and activity of one of Kolkata’s busiest areas, and we wanted our Puja to offer a space of silence, peace and spiritual connection. We are honoured to mark our 91st year with this special presentation and welcome visitors to experience a journey from the chaos outside to the peace within, and ultimately, a deeper connection with Maa Durga.”
With its 91st edition, Chorebagan Sarbojanin Durgotsab Samity reaffirms its commitment to keeping the spirit of Durga Puja alive through the harmonious coming together of tradition, artistic innovation and collective devotion.
Through “Beyond Sound,” the Samity invites devotees and visitors to experience a different dimension of Durga Puja one in which silence becomes an expression of spirituality, art becomes a medium of reflection, and the presence of Maa Durga inspires a sense of peace beyond words.
